Every child is special, but some children are just a little extra special. What is special is that these children’s innate intellectual ability is quite high compared to other children of this age. The most famous example of people like this is the life of the musician Mozart. Mozart started composing his first music at the age of five.
Mozart became one of the most famous pianists in the country at the age of ten. If you search, you can find that throughout history, there were children who showed talent in various subject areas. Mary is a little girl with such a special intellectual ability. Mary is seven years old. But Mary’s mathematical ability is at a level that not even a twenty-seven-year-old or a fifty-seven-year-old can come close to. Mary’s father left her when she was young. Mary’s mother Diane is a famous mathematician.
Their mother passed away when Mary was young. But before her mother dies, Mary is handed over to her only brother, Mary’s uncle Frank. From there, Mary grows up with her uncle. When Mary was seven years old, Diane and Evelyn, Frank’s mother and Mary’s grandmother, came to meet Frank. Evelyn meets her son, Frank, asking for the right to adopt Mary. She is preparing the necessary legal background for that. Mary is really happy with Frank. The bond between uncle and daughter is very close. Frank, who was single, loves Mary very much. But now Frank has to leave Mary. He has to go to the law for Mary’s rights.
Just like in the chalk story, we get to see two parties in this story who claim that one child is the right of another. Mary’s grandmother Evelyn is a person who is at the top of society in terms of wealth and power. Evelyn’s goal is to improve Mary’s mathematical ability and make her one of the greatest mathematicians in the world. But Frank is an ordinary man who doesn’t have that special power and lives by finding things at that time. He does not want to deprive Mary of her childhood by giving her an age-inappropriate education. Frank wants her to be a normal child who hangs out with other children and plays with them.
So who will get Mary in the end from those two parties? How will her fate be resolved? To know about it, watch the movie Gifted. The director has managed to get a good performance from McKenna Grace who plays the role of Mary. And Chris Evans has shown that he can do any type of acting beyond the usual superhero roles. The chemistry between this uncle and daughter is built in the film very beautifully. It is worth seeing how he leads her to understand life with her own understanding without putting the ideas of society on the child’s head like that.
I think that Gifted is a film that teaches a good lesson to a society where parents think that children are a part of a machine to memorize books and pass exams, and after that, it is their only responsibility to send their children to the top of society.
