A 72-year-old Florida man has been arrested on child pornography charges after police uncovered a horrifying stash of explicit material in his home. Authorities described the discovery as “over one ton” of printed images, many of which depicted the sexual abuse of children.
Paul Zittel was taken into custody on Thursday in Ocala, Florida, following a tip that led investigators to his doorstep. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office revealed that multiple files containing child pornography had been uploaded to the internet, and the IP address was traced back to Zittel. Armed with a search warrant, officers raided his home and made a gut-wrenching discovery.
Inside Zittel’s residence, police found more than 220,000 printed images, many of them depicting the exploitation of children. The material was stored in boxes and towering stacks, primarily in his bedroom and office. Other residents in the home told investigators that Zittel strictly forbade anyone from entering these rooms without his supervision.
The sheer volume of the material was staggering. Authorities estimated the total weight of the printed images to be around 2,600 pounds—more than a ton. Zittel’s printer, sitting on his desk, showed clear signs of heavy use, according to the sheriff’s office.
In addition to the printed material, police seized Zittel’s computer and a storage device for further investigation. He now faces 25 counts of possession of child pornography and is being held at the Marion County Jail on a $250,000 bond.
The case has left the community shaken, as the scale of the operation and the explicit nature of the material paint a deeply disturbing picture. Authorities continue to investigate, urging anyone with additional information to come forward.
